Calm, colder Tuesday in Metro Detroit -- but get ready for midweek mess

4Warn Weather Alert has been issued for Thursday morning

Colder temperatures build in today with a mix of sun and clouds. Highs this afternoon will only be around 30, which is slightly cooler than average but overall rather seasonal. Tomorrow will be slightly cooler as we struggle to reach 30.

Midweek Mess - Round 1

Mixed precipitation arrives late Wednesday evening and continues through Thursday morning. A brief band of snow occurs crosses the state line late evening before a rapid transition to a longer-duration freezing rain event for Metro Detroit that begins around midnight and lasts through the Thursday morning commute. While the transition is slower north of I-69 with greater snow/sleet totals, around a tenth of an inch of ice will be possible south, closer to the state line. A 4Warn Weather Alert has been issued for Thursday morning due to the threat of icy travel conditions. Colder air returns Thursday night with gusty westerly winds, in excess of 30 mph at times.

Weekend mix - Round 2

Another mixed precipitation event is possible this weekend with the potential for accumulating snowfall and additional icing on Saturday afternoon. Highs this weekend will remain around freezing.
