DETROIT – This is the coldest day of the week with wind chills this morning ranging from the single digits to low teens and air temperatures this afternoon only forecasted to top out in the upper 20s.
A Winter Weather Advisory will go into effect 10 p.m. this evening to 9 a.m. Thursday for Lenawee, Monroe, Washtenaw, and Wayne Counties. This is due to round one of two potential rounds of wintry weather over the next few days.
Midweek Mess
A wintry mix is expected across most of SE Michigan late overnight into Thursday morning. Freezing rain will move in from the south, likely crossing the state line around or just after midnight turning rather widespread across the region by 4AM and done closer to 7AM. Ice accumulations of around a tenth of an inch are possible, with some locally higher totals near the Ohio state line. Untreated roads and sidewalks will become slick and hazardous. This could lead to the potential for school closings due to icy bus routes, especially in our rural and southern communities. A 4Warn Weather Alert has been issued for Thursday morning due to the threat of icy travel conditions. Colder air returns Thursday night with gusty westerly winds, in excess of 30 mph at times.
Weekend Mix
Another mixed precipitation event is possible this weekend with the potential for accumulating snowfall and additional icing Saturday afternoon and evening. Highs this weekend will remain around freezing.
