Digging out in Metro Detroit with another snowstorm approaching -- Here’s what to expect

4Warn Weather Alert for Saturday and Sunday

Metro Detroiters are digging out of 3 to 6 inches of snow, which fell from Wednesday afternoon through early Thursday morning. A few spots may have higher totals.

The main area of snow has exited Southeast Michigan, and the Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings have been discontinued.

A 4Warn Weather Alert continues for Thursday morning due to the impact of the snow and the chance of additional snow showers.

A few lake-effect snow showers will continue to move through Southeast Michigan on Thursday. An additional dusting is possible. Otherwise, it will be mostly cloudy and cold. Temperatures will be in the 20s for much of the day. Highs will be around 30 degrees, but it will feel like the single digits and teens.

Thursday night will be mostly cloudy as temperatures plummet to around 10 degrees. Wind chills will be in the single digits.

Valentine’s Day

The weather will be mostly cloudy and cold on Valentine’s Day. Morning wind chills will be in the single digits. Highs will be in the lower to mid 20s. Lows will be in the teens.

Dress warmly for any evening dinner plans, and have boots for late night plans.

The next snowstorm will start moving into Southeast Michigan around midnight. Lows will be around 20 degrees.

A 4Warn Weather Alert has been declared for Saturday and Sunday due to the weekend-long snowfall.

Saturday

It will be snowy on Saturday. Roads conditions will likely be poor throughout the day. Highs will be in the lower to mid 30s.

Saturday night will also be snowy. Lows will be in the lower to mid 20s.

Sunday

The long-duration snowfall is expected to last through at least Sunday morning in Metro Detroit. Highs will be in the mid 20s and lows in the single digits.

Washington’s Birthday

Behind the strong low-pressure system, Washingtons’ Birthday–also known as Presidents’ Day–will be cold and breezy. Highs will only be in the teens, and lows will be near zero.

While temperatures will slowly rise through the week, temperatures will remain below normal.
