Braving the cold: Wind chills dropping below zero in Metro Detroit

4Warn Weather – Relief from the bone-chilling air will not come quickly.

Tuesday morning’s lowest wind chills in Southeast Michigan approached -20 degrees. That means that it felt about 50 degrees colder than the freezing mark (32 degrees).

Perhaps the sunshine made up for the bitter cold.

Evening temperatures will be around 10 degrees, but most wind chill values will be below zero.

Skies will be partly cloudy on Tuesday night. Temperatures will range from zero to five degrees in Metro Detroit, but wind chills will be -10 to -5 degrees. Westerly winds will be five to 10 mph.

Wednesday

Wednesday will begin with wind chills around 10 below zero. Under mostly cloudy skies, highs will be in the upper teens to 20 degrees. Afternoon wind chills will be 5 to 10 degrees.

At night, it will be mostly cloudy with the chance of snow showers. Lows will be in the lower teens.

Thursday

Temperatures will trend upward.

Thursday will have a chance of snow showers in the morning. Otherwise, it will be cloudy. Highs will be in the lower 20s, but it will feel like the single digits. Lows will fall to around 10 degrees.

Friday & Saturday

Under partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies, expect similar conditions for Friday and Saturday. Highs will be in the upper 20s to 30 degrees. Lows will be in the teens.

Sunday & Monday

Temperatures will climb into the lower to mid-30s on Sunday. Monday’s temperatures will be back to the mid to upper 30s by Monday, which is near normal.

Metro Detroit’s average highs for the final week of February are 38 to 39 degrees.
