Warm, wet and windy Wednesday in Metro Detroit: What to expect and when

Tumbling temperatures tonight will bring a snowy start to Thursday

DETROIT – Grab an umbrella as you head out the door! Waves of rain are in the forecast today as a stronger low pressure rolls through the region.

Showers and isolated non-severe thunderstorms will be possible again between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. It will be warmer than average too. Highs in the upper 50s near 60 today. The warmth is ushered in from a southerly flow of wind. Southerly gusts of 30 to 35 mph are expected this afternoon before shifting to northwest winds of 35 to 45 mph Thursday morning.

Temperatures drop from the upper 40s this evening to the upper 20s by the Thursday morning.

Snow on the way

Slippery conditions may develop for the Thursday morning commute due to a changeover from rain to snow. We also could see wet surfaces freeze over if not treated as those temperatures drop. Conditions improve quickly Thursday as the associated low pressure system exits the Great Lakes, but we remain breezy. High temperatures will struggle to reach 40.

Cooler weekend, warmer next week

We could see a few more snowflakes mix with rain on Friday for folks along and south of I-94. Some more sunshine and seasonal temperatures return for the weekend as we stay on either side of 40 through Sunday. We warm up next week with 50s and even 60s possible!
