Not ready to let winter go? The chance of snowflakes is in Metro Detroit’s 4Warn Weather forecast, but so is 70-degree weather.
Thursday night’s skies will be mostly clear to partly cloudy, which will provide good viewing for the overnight lunar eclipse. Lows will be around 35 degrees. Winds will be out of the east and southeast around 5 mph.
The penumbral eclipse will begin at 11:57 p.m. Thursday, which will mean that a light shadow from Earth will begin touching the moon. The partial eclipse will begin at 1:09 a.m., and the moon will begin to look red. The total eclipse will begin at 2:26 a.m., reach maximum eclipse at 2:58 a.m., and end at 2:58 a.m. During the total eclipse, red light from the sun will be refracted through Earth’s atmosphere and cast onto the moon. The partial eclipse will end at 4:47 a.m.
