DETROIT – If you’re in Metro Detroit, you might want to keep an eye on the sky tonight.

The Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a geomagnetic storm watch of G3 intensity, which means there’s a chance we could catch a glimpse of the northern lights—especially in the northern parts of the state.

Current rain and snow conditions

Speaking of weather, today’s radar is showing some action. Rain is coming down in areas like Oakland and Macomb Counties, and as colder air moves in, snow showers have already touched Genesee and Lapeer Counties.

The mixed precipitation is expected to track south and east, so if you’re not seeing it yet, you might in the next couple of hours.

Chilly temperatures with a warming trend ahead

Today kicked off with temperatures around 48 degrees in Downtown Detroit, but they’re dropping as the day goes on. A cold front moved through overnight, bringing these cooler temps and some breezy conditions—expect wind gusts up to 36 mph in some areas. Hold onto your hats!

Looking ahead, things are set to warm up. The 6 to 10 day temperature outlook shows above average temperatures on the horizon, with highs reaching into the 50s by the end of next week.

Until then, expect a mix of rain and snow early Monday, but don’t worry—the sun will make occasional appearances.
