Storm threat looms over Metro Detroit this weekend

4Warn Weather Alert for Part of the Weekend

DETROIT – Confidence is growing that impactful weather will be around for part of the weekend, in the form of strong to severe thunderstorms.

Saturday features the chance for a few more showers mainly later in the day. Like today there could be a few rumbles of thunder, but no severe weather is anticipated.

The chance for strong to severe showers and storms looks best Sunday. The Storm Prediction Center is in agreement, and has placed all of southeast Michigan under a slight risk for severe weather. This is level 2 of 5 on the severe weather scale. It’s a touch too far out to talk specifics on timing and threats, but we’re leaning towards this being mainly an evening event with strong damaging winds and flooding being our biggest concerns. That being said hail and an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out.

Rain continues to fall into Monday and should change to a little bit of light snow Monday evening before ending.

This weekend and early next week also features gusty winds in the forecast. Gusts through Sunday could be as high as 30mph, but Monday they’ll be strongest closer to 40mph.
