DETROIT – Another round of dangerous storms is closing in on Metro Detroit this week.
The entire area was under an “enhanced” risk for severe weather on Sunday evening, which is the third level on the 1-5 scale.
That’s the case again for Wednesday, when an enhanced risk will return.
It’s still a full two days away, so the timing will need to be fine-tuned over the next 24 hours. But here’s what we know so far:
Morning starts with wintry mix
Temperatures have dropped in Metro Detroit, and Wednesday will start off with a wintry mix.
This mix is expected to be a factor before daybreak.
Temperatures rise rapidly
Temperatures will begin to rise rapidly throughout the day Wednesday, following those morning lows.
By Wednesday afternoon, temperatures will likely reach the upper 60s.
Midday could bring some heavy showers, and by the end of Wednesday, 1-2 inches of total rain is possible.
Storms move through
Some non-severe storms are likely on Wednesday afternoon, as temperatures continue to rise.
But a stronger line of storms is expected after sunset. Again: The exact timing of these stronger storms could change, because it’s still more than 48 hours out.
Usually, the midday rain would suck some of the energy out of the storms in the evening, but because of the drastic warming of temperatures, stronger storms are still expected.
These storms could come with damaging wind gusts. As of now, this looks like a very similar situation to what Metro Detroiters saw on Sunday evening.
