Get ready for a big cooldown. Freezing temperatures will support the chance of snow.
Sunday night’s skies will be partly to mostly cloudy. Lows will be in the lower 30s, with winds that are light and variable.
Monday
A low-pressure system and cold front will move across the Great Lakes on Monday. Rain and snow showers will be possible from late morning through evening. The snow showers will arrive from the northwest and travel southeastward.

Highs will be in the mid 40s in Metro Detroit, which is around 10 degrees below average. Highs will only be near 40 degrees in the Thumb. Breezy conditions will make it feel colder. Expect afternoon wind chills in the 20s and lower 30s. Winds will be out of the south-southwest at 5 to 15 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.
The cold conditions led to changes in the Tigers schedule.
Light snow accumulation of less than half an inch is possible near and north of I-69, but mainly on grass, vehicles and bridges. The ground will be warmer in Metro Detroit, which will melt the snow.

Behind the cold front, Southeast Michigan will get a reinforcement of cold air. Monday night’s temperatures will fall to the lower to mid 20s. Wind chills will be in the 20s during the evening and teens at night. Winds will be out of the northwest at 10 to 15 with gusts to 30 mph.
Tuesday
Tuesday’s high temperatures will be in the 30s to 40 degrees. A couple lake-effect snow showers will be possible, with a mixture of sunshine and clouds. Northwesterly winds will gust up to 25 mph.
Under partly cloudy skies, Tuesday night’s temperatures will be around 20 degrees in the Thumb and mid 20s in Metro Detroit.
Wednesday
We will start to see a turnaround on Wednesday. Temperatures will return to the mid 40s, with partly cloudy skies.
Looking Ahead
Rain will develop Wednesday night and be possible through at least Thursday night. A few showers will be possible Friday morning. Otherwise, expect sunshine on Friday and through the weekend.
Temperatures will peak in the 50s on Friday and Saturday and upper 50s to 60 degrees on Sunday.
Averages and Growing Season
Metro Detroit’s average highs are in the mid to upper 50s, and average lows are in the mid to upper 30s, for the forecast period.
The average last freeze for Metro Detroit is in late April, while it is early May for Flint. Many gardeners wait until after Mother’s Day to plant sensitive plants and flowers.
