DETROIT – The window for thunderstorms in Metro Detroit over the next 24 hours is coming into clearer focus.
After Friday began with showers north of M-59, the majority of the daylight hours will be dry with well-above average temperatures across Southeast Michigan.
Highs will be in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees, with wind gusts of 30-40 mph.
Southeast Michigan is under a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms on Friday night into early Saturday morning. A marginal risk is a level 1 out of a 1-5 scale.
The main window for showers and storms appears to be between 10 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Saturday. That’s when a slow-moving cold front crosses the area.
Strong storms, damaging winds, and hail are all possible, but chances of severe weather are looking less likely.
Holiday weekend forecast
After showers move out Saturday morning, the day will dry out and feature high temperatures in the 60s.
Easter Sunday morning church services will stay dry, but as another warm front approaches, there could be some showers in the afternoon.
Highs Sunday will be in the 50s.
Next week’s weather
There’s a better chance of widespread rain heading into Monday, but the long-range outlook has temperatures trending above average for the rest of April.
Plan for temperatures in the 60s and 70s early next week.
