Severe storms with tornado potential expected in SE Michigan -- threat enhanced for Metro Detroit

Friday highs in lower 80s, Saturday highs in lower 70s

Severe Risk May 15-16, 2025.

4Warn Weather – Tracking storms with the possibility for tornadoes tonight across much of lower Michigan.

The Storm Prediction Center upped the game tonight, placing parts of Metro Detroit under an Enhanced Risk (level 3) of severe thunderstorms.

This includes cities like Howell and Ann Arbor. The rest of Metro Detroit is at a slight (level 2 risk).

The timing will be between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. with the strongest storms around midnight.

Individual supercells will combine to form a squall line, which could bring large hail over 1” in diameter, 75+ mph winds, and the possibility of an isolated tornado.

Storms quickly end by the early morning hours on Friday, leaving us with sunshine and highs in the mid-80s. Then, Friday night, there will be another chance for storms.
