After overnight storms, sunshine and summer heat return Friday

DETROIT โ€“ All severe alerts have expired this morning. The strong squall line that produced multiple severe storms through the overnight has pushed northeast out of the area and the severe threat is now over.

Some folks could be waking up to minor flooding, tree damage or power outages. We will have another summer-like day with temperatures rising back into the 80s and a good amount of sunshine.

However, another round of showers and thunderstorms will likely develop late this evening/tonight as a stronger cold front tracks through.

I would expect to see this shower and storm development across Southeast Michigan after 9 p.m. Friday and push out before daybreak on Saturday.

Although atmospheric instability will not be quite as significant as Thursday night, there will be enough for at least a marginal risk of severe storms.

Weekend

After morning rain, expect the day to be cooler and breezy on Saturday with wind gusts between 30-40 mph. Highs will be seasonal to slightly below average in the upper 60s, struggling to reach 70 on both Saturday and Sunday.

Expect Sunday to be the pick day of the weekend with sunshine returning.

Next Week

Slightly cooler than average with a stretch of 60s. Rain chances return midweek.
