Air quality advisory due to Canadian wildfire smoke

4Warn Weather – If you have noticed hazy skies over Metro Detroit, you are not alone. Smoke is drifting in from wildfires raging across central and western Canada.

As a result, an Air Quality Advisory is in effect for all of Southeast Michigan until 6 a.m. Saturday.

This advisory is particularly important for individuals with respiratory conditions, such as asthma.

People sensitive to reduced air quality should consider spending less time outdoors and avoiding strenuous activities while the advisory is active.

The wildfire smoke is being pushed south by winds in the upper atmosphere. The worst conditions are expected to clear by Saturday morning.

While the smoke is receiving a lot of attention, Exact Track 4D Radar will continue to track showers through the evening.

There is a chance that a few spots may experience heavier rain or even a rumble of thunder as the evening progresses. Showers are expected to wind down after midnight.

Temperature and extended weather outlook

Temperatures will remain comfortable. Friday night’s low is expected to dip to the lower-50s in most communities.

West of US-23, including Ann Arbor and Howell, overnight temperatures are expected to fall into the mid- to upper-40s.

Saturday will be cooler with highs in the lower to mid-60s. Expect cloud cover early, but some clearing is expected in the afternoon.

Looking Ahead

Warmer days are just around the corner. Highs are forecast to reach the mid-80s on Monday and Tuesday, and flirt with 80 degrees on Wednesday.

It will be hot, but midweek is bringing some showers and thunderstorms back into the forecast.
