Lots of sunshine for Metro Detroit on Sunday

Northern Lights possible late Sunday night

A "G4" Geomagnetic Storm Watch is in place for Sunday Night which means we stand a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights overnight Sunday (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – We started the weekend with plenty of cloud cover, which broke into some sunshine working into Saturday afternoon, and expect that sunshine to continue into the end of the weekend, and temperatures will get warmer as well!

High pressure builds into the forecast, looking ahead into the end of the weekend on Sunday, this means expect plenty of sunshine, and warmer temperatures into the afternoon as well. High temperatures heading into the 70s by the time we get to Sunday afternoon.

Into the overnight hours tonight, the Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a “G4” Geomagnetic Storm Watch due to some CME (coronal mass ejections) that took place on the surface of the sun earlier this week. This means, overnight tonight, we stand a very good chance to see the Northern Lights with the naked eye across not only the State of Michigan, but the northern half of the United States.

The drier weather continues into the first part of next week, with lots of sunshine expected Monday and Tuesday. Summer heat will return to the forecast as well, expect high temperatures to head into the low to mid 80s for the first part of next week.

Our next chance of showers and thunderstorms rolls into the forecast looking ahead into the middle of the week on Wednesday, this is thanks to another cold front that will work through the region. High temperatures remaining into the 80s for the middle of next week, before we bring some cooler changes into the forecast for the end of next week.

Once that cold front moves off to the east, we get a break from the rain for the first part of Thursday, before we do look for rain showers to move back into the forecast Thursday night and into the end of the week on Friday. High temperature is dropping into the middle 70s by the time we get to the end of next week.

The rain moves out of the region by Friday night, and that dries us out for the start of next weekend on Saturday. High temperatures remaining near or slightly above average, heading into the upper 70s by next Saturday afternoon.
