DETROIT – There’s a chance of thunderstorms Friday afternoon in Metro Detroit before a four-day stretch of dangerous heat.
Friday storm window
Heat and humidity build back in Friday, right on cue with the Summer Solstice. We will officially be in the summer season at 10:42 p.m. The Summer Solstice marks the longest daylight of the year.
Scattered storms will also be possible before the extreme heat builds in. There remains a chance for isolated to scattered strong thunderstorms from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, and then again Saturday morning into the early afternoon with a lifting warm front.
Storm Prediction Center has areas north of I-94 under a marginal risk for severe storms on Saturday, with wind and hail the primary threats.
Extreme heat
A 4Warn Weather Alert has been issued for Saturday through Tuesday due to dangerous heat. An Extreme Heat Watch has been issued for all of Southeast Michigan during this timeframe.
Daytime high temperatures will be in the 90s (record territory), and with high humidity, the feels-like temperatures will likely reach the triple digits.
Warm, muggy nights with lows only in the 70s will not provide much relief for those who do not have air conditioning.
Please check on your loved ones and neighbors. During this time, you want to reduce outdoor activity, drink plenty of water and wear loose, lightweight clothing.
Ford Fireworks forecast
The Ford Fireworks will be on Monday in Downtown Detroit, and as of right now, you’ll want to pack the cooler with lots of chilled water!
You might want to also pack an umbrella -- not to block rain, but rather to protect you from the sun!
Sunny and hot, with highs in the mid- to upper 90s and feeling like 100-105 degrees.
We stay very warm through midweek, with increasing shower and storm chances on Wednesday and Thursday.
