FORECAST SYNOPSIS:
It was another hot and humid day on Sunday, high temperatures going back into the mid 90s for most everyone, making our 2nd 90 degree day so far this year, and the dangerous heat and humidity will continue as we work through the next few days.
In upper-level ridge of high-pressure will control the forecast through the next few days, anchored over portions of the Tennessee valley and into the gulf states. This will act like a heat pump, drawing in lots of heat and humidity into the eastern half of the United States through the middle of next week.
This will keep the sunshine in the forecast for at least the next few days, before we start to bring the chance of a few scattered showers and thunderstorm thunderstorms into the forecast on Tuesday. And with the heat and humidity sticking around, we will keep the chance of a few showers and thunderstorms under the forecast through the middle and end of next week.
Some storms could be strong to severe as we go from Tuesday and Wednesday. The Storm Prediction Center has placed parts of the region under a Marginal Risk (1 out of 5) on our severe weather scale for both Tuesday and Wednesday. Damaging winds along with hail and heavy rainfall look to be the primary threats with any thunderstorms as we look ahead into the next few days. While this does not look like a widespread severe weather event, we could see a few strong to severe thunderstorms both days.
High temperatures through Tuesday will be in the mid to upper 90s, but once you factor in the humidity, we are expecting heat index value used to go at or above 100° in most locations. While temperatures will drop by the middle and end of next week back into the 80s, we still will keep some humidity around making it feel just a tad bit warmer than it actually is outside even with the chances for showers and thunderstorms.
Some drier weather looks to move into the region by the time we get to the start of the weekend on Saturday. Expect a mixture of sunshine and clouds, high temperatures will warm back up into the upper 80s by Saturday afternoon.
Another chance of showers and thunderstorms moves back into the region by the end of next weekend on Sunday. High temperatures remaining into the upper 80s by the end of the weekend.
