DETROIT – Extreme heat continues across most of Southeast Michigan today, but this will be the last day of our 4Warn Weather Alert as a result of the heat wave.
The Extreme Heat Warnings and Advisories are set to lift at 8PM. Areas north of I-69 have already peeled back the heat alerts as a cold front will bring more cloud cover and a chance of rain earlier in the day ultimately providing some relief in temperatures. Otherwise, the Metro area will have highs back in the 90s today. Heat indices will range from 95 to 105 degrees.
From dangerous heat to severe storms chances. There is a marginal risk (level 1 of 5) of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening for all of Southeast Michigan and again Wednesday south of I-696/96.
A cold front will drop through the region today and stall over the state line which will result in scattered thunderstorm chances.
Damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and heavy rainfall are the main threats with these storms, but small hail will be possible as well. Rain chances increase after 2pm today and tomorrow, but the better chance for severe storms will likely be between 4pm-8pm today.
Temperatures will fall into the 80s to round out the rest of the week.
