Hot, humid end of the week in Metro Detroit -- when to expect more storm chances

Strong storm potential returns to Southeast Michigan Friday and Saturday.

DETROIT – The moisture left over from yesterday’s showers and storms has resulted in patchy fog formation in the outlying suburbs this morning. The sunshine will burn that off rather quickly. Highs will be in the mid-80s today and we anticipate more sun than clouds with a very slight chance of a pop-up shower later in the day.

Temperatures will trend warmer into the weekend. We rise into the upper 80s on Friday and close to 90 on Saturday with heat indices into the mid to upper 90s for the first half of the weekend. Shower and storm chances return on Friday and Saturday with isolated severe storms and heavy rainfall possible each day. As for Friday, there is still quite a bit of uncertainty on how this will play out due to atmospheric factors. It could be a boom or bust scenario, but the potential is there to see upward of 2″ of rainfall in Metro Detroit if storms develop bringing heavy downpours. Then a cold front looks to arrive overnight Saturday into Sunday, but we could see storm development earlier than that, during the peak heat of the day on Saturday.

Some lingering rain will be possible into the pre-dawn hours of Sunday. Otherwise, we should dry out the rest of Sunday into early next week with temperatures remaining in the mid to upper 80s through the middle of next week.
