Cooler changes with sunshine expected to move into Metro Detroit for end of workweek

Friday highs in upper 70s; Saturday highs in lower 80s

Temperatures Thursday Night into Friday Morning will drop below average, feeling refreshing with 60s and even some 50s possible. (WDIV)

4Warn WeatherTonight: Decreasing clouds, skies becoming mostly clear late. Low: 61.

Friday: Mostly sunny skies. Below-average temperatures. High: 79.

Friday night: Mainly clear skies. Low: 63.

Saturday: Partly cloudy skies, a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon & evening. High: 83.

Saturday night: Mostly cloudy skies, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Low: 68.

After the showers and thunderstorms with heavy rainfall throughout the middle of the week, we’ve kept a few rain showers in the forecast for Thursday.

However, it has definitely been cooler than we’ve seen during the day for quite a while.

While we hang onto some cloud cover into the early to mid-evening hours Thursday night, we will clear out the clouds late tonight and into the overnight.

Overnight lows are feeling refreshing, dropping into the lower 60s, and we may even see some upper 50s outside the metro Thursday night.

Friday

High pressure builds in for the end of the week on Friday, which means we expect lots of sunshine throughout the day.

With high temperatures below average, we will not see the 80s by the end of the week, as most of us will reach the upper 70s by Friday afternoon.

Weekend forecast

Looking ahead to the start of the weekend on Saturday, most of the day is expected to be dry.

However, we anticipate a chance of showers and thunderstorms by the evening hours on Saturday and into the overnight hours.

High temperature is rebounding back into the lower 80s by Saturday afternoon.

We will keep the chance of a few morning rain showers in the forecast on Sunday, but other than that, cloud cover can be expected, with high temperatures remaining in the lower 80s by the end of the weekend.

Next week

A mixture of sunshine and clouds can be expected as we start next week on Monday, with temperatures remaining near the expected range for the end of July, in the lower 80s.

Before mostly cloudy skies are expected, we will start to warm things up once again.

Tuesday

High temperatures are expected to warm into the upper 80s by the time we reach Tuesday.

Midweek forecast

Summer heat and humidity are expected to return by mid-next week.

An upper-level ridge of high pressure will control the forecast well south of the region, acting as a “heat pump” to send our high temperatures soaring into the 90s, accompanied by increased humidity.

Once you factor in the humidity, we could see heat index values in the mid-to-upper 90s, and even near 100 degrees by Thursday.

With that, we will be on the northern edge of the area of high pressure, which will bring us a chance of some pop-up showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday and Thursday.

However, neither day will be a washout.
