Snow is possible in parts of Michigan on Friday, the first snow of the season.

The rain mix started late Thursday night in parts of northern Michigan, but could turn to snow on Friday, Nov. 6.

Here’s what to know:

Areas with highest chance of seeing snow

Higher elevations in Marquette and Baraga counties have a higher chance of seeing snowflakes mix with rain.

Little to no snow accumulation is expected across most locations, according to NWS Marquette and Gaylord. However, NWS Marquette says some residents in the higher terrain of Marquette and Baraga counties may need snow brushes Friday morning.

Gusty winds could bring wind chills into the 20s across parts of northern Michigan Friday morning, although wind chills do not determine whether precipitation falls as snow.

Timing

The rain-snow mix could continue through midday Friday across portions of northern Lower Michigan. Precipitation gradually diminishes across the Upper Peninsula Friday morning.

Will there be snow in Metro Detroit?

Snow is not expected with this system. Rain remains the primary precipitation type across Southeast Michigan.
