DETROIT – I’m Paul Gross, and I approve this forecast. Well, sort of. Monday's 60s are gone, and you should brace yourself for a more typical November pattern. I know, I know, some of you want me to make our weather great again. But I can’t. Just remember: we’re warmer together.
Any rain between now and the overnight hours will be in the form of widely scattered brief showers. Temperatures should remain relatively mild through the polls closing at 8 p.m., although it will become breezy. Remember that if you are already in line at 8 p.m., you will be allowed to vote. If you arrive after 8 p.m., even if there still is a line, you cannot vote.

If you’re one of those people still wavering about whether or not to vote, do it. Even if you’re not happy with either candidate, when you turn in your ballot, you’ve set an example for the rest of the world and, trust me, they are watching. Many colleagues of mine from all around the world have been messaging me Tuesday and wishing us good luck in our election. One of my French colleagues, in fact, said, "Vive l'Amerique!" which means, "Long Live America!"
Lows by Wednesday morning should be in the low 40s (5-6 degrees Celsius for our Canadian neighbors). Winds overnight will blow from the northwest at 10 to 15 mph.
Clouds will dominate at least the first half of Wednesday, with some breaks of sun developing during the afternoon. Highs will only be near 50 degrees (10 degrees Celsius), and northwest winds continuing at 10 to 15 mph will make it feel even chillier. Wednesday’s sunrise is at 7:17 a.m., and Wednesday’s sunset is at 5:17 p.m. -- exactly 10 hours of daylight.
It will become mostly clear Wednesday night, with lows in the mid-30s (2-3 degrees Celsius).
Thursday will be mostly sunny and still breezy, although it will be warmer. Highs will be in the upper 50s (14-15 degrees Celsius).
A stronger cold front will blast through the area overnight Thursday. There’s a small shower chance, but I think the chances of us getting measurable rain aren’t terribly great. Lows will be in the low to mid-40s (7 degrees Celsius), and the wind will increase noticeably after the front passes by.
It will be partly cloudy on Friday, and windy in the morning. Winds should start to slacken during the afternoon. Temperatures either will remain steady, or rise a few degrees into the mid- to upper 40s (8-9 degrees Celsius). One interesting feature about Friday’s weather is the wind direction first thing in the morning, combined with the sharply falling temperatures behind the cold front.
If the air gets cold enough, and if the wind blows from the north for a few hours, then some lake effect snow showers would be possible in the Thumb. There’s a narrow window for this to happen, since winds will turn a bit more northwest as the day progresses.
It will be mostly clear Friday night, with lows in the low 30s (0 degrees Celsius) in our Urban Heat Island, but possibly in the upper 20s (minus 2 degrees Celsius) in suburban locations. If you haven’t had a frost yet (like me -- I have some nice begonias in front and snapdragons in back that are still doing just fine), then Friday night may be your turn.
Saturday will be mostly sunny, with highs in the mid-40s (7 degrees Celsius). It will be mostly clear Saturday night, with lows in the mid-30s (1 degree Celsius).
It will be mostly sunny on Sunday and Monday, with highs in the low 50s (11-12 degrees Celsius).
Our next chance for rain is probably Tuesday afternoon.
