Metro Detroit weather forecast: Beautiful start to the weekend

Highs in the middle 70s

DETROIT – Friday night’s storms are long gone, and today will be a favorable day for most recreational plans, as well as storm cleanup and utility crew work to restore power.

Skies will be mostly sunny at times and partly cloudy at other times (with those in our North Zone seeing this morning’s clouds breaking up).

Highs should reach the mid 70s (23 to 24 degrees Celsius), with a somewhat breezy west-southwest wind at 10 to 15 mph by this afternoon.

Mostly clear tonight…it’ll be a great evening to take your sweetie out…then skies become partly cloudy late at night.

Lows in the mid-to-upper 50s (13 to 15 degrees Celsius) means that it’ll be great sleeping weather. Open up those windows!  A southwest wind will diminish to 2 to 5 mph.

Sunday is a tough call.  Clouds will increase and, for most of us, it should be a dry day into early to mid-afternoon.  The exception to that will be areas north of I-69, where showers are more likely.

Farther south, just a spotty light shower could develop during the mid-to-late afternoon.  Some of us could get through the day totally dry, but there is that shower risk, so keep an eye on our app’s radar to stay ahead of the weather.  Highs will warm into the upper 70s to near 80 degrees (26 to 27 degrees Celsius).

Mostly cloudy Sunday night with just a few light showers possible.  Lows in the mid 60s (18 degrees Celsius).

Monday starts with lots of clouds, but at least partial sunshine should develop during the afternoon.  Highs near 80 degrees (27 degrees Celsius).

A big upper level ridge of high pressure then builds in for the rest of the week into the first half of next weekend, with dry weather and lots of sunshine Tuesday through Saturday!  Highs through the week will be not too far from 80 degrees (27 degrees Celsius), with overnight lows in the 60 to 65 degree range (15 to 18 degrees Celsius).

Of course, forecasting specific weather a week ahead of time is quite dicey, but today’s computer models suggest a potential front bringing a shower and thunderstorm chance next Sunday, but this is far from guaranteed at this point.
