Overall, I think most of us can look back on Memorial Day Weekend 2017 and declare it a good one. Yes, we had some scattered storms (including one severe) Sunday afternoon, and some scattered showers Monday afternoon. However, some places (such as my house – 0.03”) received almost nothing the entire weekend and, most importantly, all of our community parades Monday morning had spectacular weather. We ended up with substantial stretches of dry, comfortable weather this weekend, and you can’t ask for much more on a three-day holiday weekend.
Some isolated, brief, light showers popped up Tuesday afternoon, but these splash ‘n’ dash showers will mostly fade by sunset. There remains only a very small chance for an isolated shower overnight as a cold front crosses the area. Lows in the mid 50s (13 degrees Celsius). Our brisk afternoon winds will settle down after sunset to around 5 to 10 mph. For those of you observing Ramadan, sunset this evening is at 9:02 p.m.

Mostly sunny to start on Wednesday, with skies becoming partly cloudy by late morning and partly sunny for the afternoon. There’s only a slight chance for a brief, light afternoon shower…most of us once again should remain dry. Highs in the upper 60s (20 degrees Celsius), although it’ll become breezy with west-southwest winds at 15 to 20 mph. Wednesday’s sunrise is at 6:00 a.m., and Wednesday’s sunset is at 9:03 p.m.

Friday is Comerica Bank Free Prix Day, as we kickoff Detroit Grand Prix weekend! And right on cue, the weather starts getting quite uncertain due to the timing of an advancing warm front. The way my computer models are depicting things today, it appears that any showers or thunderstorms would hold off until late in the day…what great news it would be if we can hold them off until early evening and get most of the daytime hours in dry. Stay tuned on this…I’ll keep you updated. Highs Friday in the upper 70s (25-26 degrees Celsius).
There’s a better chance for showers and thunderstorms Friday night, with lows in the low 60s (16 degrees Celsius).
Saturday is an even bigger question mark, as the models differ greatly on whether or not we’ll get showers and thunderstorms. Not only do we have the Grand Prix going on at Belle Isle, but we also have the West Bloomfield-Bloomfield Hills Relay for Life at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (I’ll be there as a proud cancer survivor myself…more details later in the week), and we also have the Cancer Awareness and Research Network’s (CARN) inaugural 6K run/walk going on in River Rouge (click here for more details). That’s a LOT of people outdoors at big events, so I’ll keep a close eye on the models through the week and definitely keep you updated daily. It appears that highs Saturday will be in the mid 70s (23 degrees Celsius), which is not too hot and not too cold…as long as we can keep the rain away.
The models, unfortunately, bring in a better chance for showers and thunderstorms on Sunday…the big Grand Prix day at Belle Isle. Again, I’ll keep you posted. Highs should only reach the upper 60s (20 degrees Celsius).
