Metro Detroit weather: Good Friday was great, but what about this weekend?

Paul Gross has weather forecast for rest of Easter weekend

DETROIT – Great weather on Good Friday is always a bonus, and what a great day it was, as sunshine boosted high temperatures to near 60 degrees (15-16 degrees Celsius) areawide. Clouds will increase tonight and, if we can hold off those clouds until after 9 p.m., we’ll have another chance to see the International Space Station fly overhead for the second time this week! Here are the details on that:

After a dry first two-thirds of the night, showers and possible thunderstorms (though not severe) will move in later at night ahead of the strong warm front I’ve been telling you about all week long. Low temps in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees (9-10 degrees Celsius) will occur in the middle of the night, as temperatures start to rise toward dawn. The wind will be southeast at three to six mph.

Our Saturday will begin with some showers and thunderstorms in the area, but those will move out from southwest to northeast by mid-morning (therefore, earliest in Lenawee County, and latest in Sanilac County). Clouds will steadily decrease, and our wind will pick up from the south-southwest, eventually increasing to 20 to 25 mph, with gusts between 30 and 40 mph likely.

But these winds are carrying in warm air, and we’ll see temps soar into the upper 70s (26 degrees Celsius), with some locations probably touching 80 degrees (27 degrees Celsius) before it’s all said and done. There is the slight chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon, but most of us will remain dry. Get ready for a summery Saturday afternoon!

Saturday’s sunrise is at 6:52 a.m., and Saturday’s sunset is at 8:15 p.m.

There will be increasing clouds overnight Saturday with scattered showers or thunderstorms developing late at night. There will be very mild lows near 60 degrees (15-16 degrees Celsius).

Sunday morning’s sunrise is at 6:50 a.m., for those of you who need to schedule Easter morning sunrise services.

There is the chance for scattered Easter morning showers or thunderstorms until early afternoon, when the cold front will move through and cut off the rain.

If you have plans to be out and about, and many of you will, I strongly suggest monitoring things on the free Local4Casters app. When you open the app, it opens right up to our customizable radar page.  Don’t have the app?  Download it for free in the app store, just search under "WDIV." Also, those who follow me on Twitter (@PGLocal4 and @Local4Casters) will get personal updates over the weekend.

Once the cold front passes by, I think we’ll see some sunshine develop, and it’ll be continued windy (although not as windy as Saturday), with highs near 70 degrees (21 degrees Celsius). It should be dry for those heading to Easter dinner.

Here’s how my in-house 4km RPM model is depicting things this weekend. For those of you who read my earlier weather article Friday afternoon, this is new model data that appears to have a much better handle on the Sunday weather situation.

Decreasing clouds Sunday night, with lows in the mid- to upper 40s (8 degrees Celsius).

Mostly sunny Monday, with highs in the low 60s (17 degrees Celsius).

Mostly sunny to partly cloudy Tuesday, with highs in the mid-60s (18 degrees Celsius).

Showers are possible Wednesday morning, then we dry out for the afternoon. Highs in the mid-60s (18 degrees Celsius).

We have another rain chance Thursday, and then things hopefully dry out for Friday and Saturday, before rain returns Sunday.
