Metro Detroit weather: Showers Friday night, chillier

Overnight temperatures in the 30s

DETROIT – Scattered rain showers with a couple of heavy downpours and a few lightning strikes in Wayne County are moving through Southeast Michigan late Friday afternoon. They will be ending just before dinnertime, but more are on the way.

Friday evening will be a little wet with scattered rain showers north of I-94. It will be cooler north of M-59/Hall Road with temps in the middle 50s. Milder, elsewhere, with temperatures in the 60s.

There will be a dry period from 6:30 pm ET to 12 midnight. Skies will be cloudy. A separate area of low pressure arrives after midnight. More rain will fall in the wee-hours of Saturday morning. Also, it gets chillier with lows in the middle to upper 30s to near 40°F.

Saturday will be damp in the early morning, then dry the rest of the day. It will be much colder than average. Temps will be in the 30s and low 40s in the morning. Afternoon readings will be in the middle and upper 40s to near 50°F. Families will need their jackets, coats and hats to stay warm, especially at outdoor commencement ceremonies and graduation parties.

Sunday will be sunnier and milder. Highs closer to 60°F. Great weather for everyone, including people going to and from Veg Fest in Ann Arbor and student-competitors and mentor from all over the world for the FIRST Robotics world championship competition at the convention center in downtown Detroit.

Then, the warm-up begins Monday. Blue skies abound as the mercury rises to, at least, 70°F.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be warmer with highs in the middle 70s. Showers and storms are possible Wednesday.
