DETROIT – A warm and muggy stretch is upon us and it starts today with an Air Quality Alert or Ozone Action Day.
Morning temps around Metro Detroit are in the 50s to low and mid 60s under mostly clear skies. We will see and feel plenty of Tuesday sunshine and the humidity is starting to rise, which means our highs in the mid 80s will feel a couple of degrees warmer. Be careful, an Air Quality Alert means the conditions will make it hard to breath for asthmatics and those with heart and respiratory conditions.
The sun and warmth today will mix with slightly higher pollution levels and create the chemical ‘ozone’ which again makes it tough to breath. The common advice is to avoid gas powered lawn equipment, and try to do as little driving as you can.
Wednesday weather forecast
Wednesday should be warmer still, but it all depends on the timing of a cold front and the clouds that accompany that front. Be prepared for temps in the mid to upper 80s and very uncomfortable humidity. It is going to feel quite tropical and unpleasant tomorrow through Saturday all across SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario. We do have a chance for a few spotty rain and thundershowers tomorrow afternoon as the front passes through, but it doesn’t look to be too intense or widespread.
The aforementioned cold front will move back into Metro Detroit as a warm front on Thursday elevating our heat and humidity concerns. That front will be draped over us for a few days and bring scattered rain and thunder during the afternoon hours on Thursday, and then coming and going for a few days.
It will be tough to pinpoint exact timing and location of the showers because of the movement of that frontal boundary. Expect temps in the mid 80s to near 90 degrees Friday and Saturday with spotty storms. You can track radar and stay ahead of the showers and storms with our Local4Casters app.
