Signs your child may have some developmental concerns and how to help them

Has your child not met a certain milestone?

As we watch children grow, we see them develop in many different ways, from infant to toddler to child. Along the way we celebrate milestones like first steps or first words, but what if the child in your life hasn’t reached a milestone by a certain age, or at all?

That’s where people like MetroEHS can help families and children thrive when developmental challenges present themselves. We spoke to Dawn Sterling, one of their experts, about the signs we should look out for that could signal there are some developmental concerns.

According to Sterling, the major sign is when your child does not hit certain milestones at the ages they should. Your pediatrician will be the best judge of this, so consult them if you feel like your child is late at developing. This also included if they hit certain milestones on time, but are now falling off.

Upon talking to your doctor, they may want to run some evaluations. Sterling says this is a great thing because it is always better to rule out a concern than to perhaps miss it.

From there, behavioral therapy is typically recommended, like speech therapy, feeding therapy, and occupational therapy. These therapies can help with a variety of diagnoses,’ including autism.

If your child does have autism or another developmental disorder, they can then direct you in the right direction to receive assistance.

Places like MetroEHS offer a variety of services and therapies in one place, which really helps the child in all aspects of their lives. Watch the video above to see some of the different tools they use to work with children.
