Rain, storms to begin week in Metro Detroit: What to know

Rain for some Monday, more widespread rain Tuesday

4Warn Weather – Clusters of showers and a few embedded thunderstorms move west to east along and north of M-59 early this morning, diminishing as the morning progresses. Kids in our northern communities might need an umbrella at the bus stop.

Otherwise, it’s going to be a t-shirt and shorts kind of day! We are already waking up to temperatures 15-20 degrees warmer than Sunday morning.

Highs today will soar to around 80 degrees before a cold front pushes through our area Tuesday. Winds will be breezy today with gusts around 25 mph.

Showers and non-severe thunderstorms will redevelop this afternoon and evening mainly north of Metro Detroit and for those in our more northern counties. At about 8 p.m. or 9 p.m., those shower chances will pick up along and north of M-59.

Tonight’s sunset is at 8:46 p.m.

More widespread rain Tuesday

Showers and thunderstorms will continue Tuesday, increasing in coverage toward Detroit throughout the morning.

Widespread rain will move in by 9 a.m. or 10 a.m. Tuesday, and will continue into the afternoon. Those showers will fizzle out through the afternoon, though, and will mostly dissipate by the evening.

Highs on Tuesday will only top out in the mid-60s, so it’ll be noticeably cooler than Monday.

Some remnant shower will linger overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, but will clear out by Wednesday morning.

What’s coming this week

Wednesday will be warmer and dry.

Thursday will be dry with highs back into the 70s. Some rain may develop late Thursday leading into Friday, but it may hold off until Friday.

A rainy Friday is expected.

Elsewhere ...

Nationally, severe thunderstorms and flash flooding will impact portions of the Gulf Coast on Monday and the Southeast on Tuesday. Above average temperatures expected for the West.
