The BirdCast model predicts the intensity of bird migration for specific areas - turn out your lights to aid migration in Michigan.

As we head into fall with the weather getting cooler, thousands of birds are flying south for the winter. In fact, September through November is known as raptor season because this is the time of year in Michigan when you can see many birds of prey high in the sky.

Starting March 15, residents are asked to turn off late-night lights and shut window blinds after 11 p.m. to help birds migrating through Ann Arbor.

Around 10 p.m. on Thursday night, 10,800 birds were flying over Washtenaw County, and 4,500 had completely crossed over the county.
